Organizations

FROM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TO YOUR LOCAL CLUB.

THE GOVERNING BODIES OF ORGANIZED ARCHERY.

WHO RUNS THE SPORT — AND HOW TO PLUG IN.

The organizations that shape competitive and recreational archery in the United States and around the world. Start with the international and national governing bodies — World Archery, USA Archery, NFAA, and the others that set the rules, sanction events, and develop the athletes. State and local organizations are coming next, so you'll be able to find your governing body, your league, and your nearest club all in one place.

THE NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY FOR U.S. ARCHERY.

THE PIPELINE TO INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION.

USA Archery is the national governing body for the Olympic and Paralympic sport of archery in the United States. They sanction national tournaments, develop the Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program, certify coaches, and select the athletes who represent Team USA at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, and World Archery events. If you're aiming at organized competition in this country, this is the road that leads there.

Over 160 national member federations operate under World Archery, including USA Archery. If you've ever watched archery on the world stage, this is the body that made it happen.

FIELD, 3D, AND INDOOR — THE NFAA WAY.

AMERICAN FIELD ARCHERY'S HOME.

The NFAA is the largest field archery organization in the United States, sanctioning indoor, outdoor field, and 3D tournaments across every skill level. The NFAA Vegas Shoot, the National Indoor Championships, and the Outdoor Field Nationals all run under NFAA rules. They've been organizing American archery since 1939, and they're the path for archers who want competition outside the Olympic recurve track.

3D ARCHERY'S BIG NATIONAL CIRCUIT.

3D ON A NATIONAL SCALE.

The IBO runs one of the country's two major 3D archery tournament circuits, with regional Triple Crown shoots and a World Championship every summer. Despite the name, the IBO welcomes target archers — their 3D format is open to anyone shooting foam animals at unmarked distances, regardless of whether you ever hunt. For target archers who want into the 3D world, the IBO is one of the two main doors.

ARCHERY IN AMERICAN SCHOOLS.

WHERE A LOT OF ARCHERS START.

NASP brings archery into elementary, middle, and high schools across the country, using a standardized curriculum and a single bow model so every student competes on equal equipment. Millions of students have shot through NASP since it launched in 2002, and a significant percentage of competitive American archers got their first arrow off through this program. If you're an educator, a parent, or an archer wondering how to bring the sport to a school, NASP is the answer.

SCHOLASTIC 3D AND TARGET FOR YOUTH.

THE NEXT STEP AFTER NASP.

S3DA is where many NASP graduates go next — a youth-focused program that adds 3D and outdoor target archery to the scholastic mix, with team competitions running from elementary school through college. S3DA bridges the gap between school-based archery and the broader competitive world, giving young archers a structured path forward without forcing them to pick a single discipline too early.

YOUTH ARCHERY THROUGH 4-H

ARCHERY MEETS YOUTH DEVELOPMENT.

4-H Archery is part of the 4-H Shooting Sports program, the youth-development organization that's been around since 1902. It teaches archery alongside the same life-skills curriculum 4-H is known for — responsibility, leadership, and community service. Trained adult volunteers run programs at the county and state level, and 4-H archers compete in regional and national events. For families already in 4-H, it's a natural way in. For families looking for a youth program that's about more than just the bow, it's worth knowing.

ADAPTIVE ARCHERY — INCLUSION IN PRACTICE.

ARCHERY IS FOR EVERY BODY.

Break the Barriers is a nonprofit that makes sports — including archery — accessible to people of all abilities. Founded in Fresno, California in 1984, they've grown into a national model for inclusive programming, working with athletes who have physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities alongside able-bodied participants. For TLAA, Break the Barriers represents what adaptive archery looks like when it's done right: no separation, no condescension, just the sport made available to everyone who wants it.

THE TRADE GROUP BEHIND THE ARCHERY INDUSTRY.

THE INDUSTRY SIDE OF THE SPORT.

The ATA is the trade organization for the archery and bowhunting industry — manufacturers, retailers, distributors, and the businesses that build the gear. The annual ATA Show is where new products debut and where shops do most of their buying for the year. They also fund advocacy, growth programs, and youth participation initiatives. The ATA isn't an organization most individual archers join, but it's the body shaping what gets made, what gets stocked, and what gets supported across the industry.
