The Two Main Ranking Systems
USA Archery uses two primary ranking frameworks that serve different purposes.
The USA Archery Outdoor Rankings are based on scores submitted from USA Archery-sanctioned outdoor events throughout the season. Rankings are calculated using a points formula that rewards both score performance and event participation. The higher the competition level of the event you shoot, the more points are available. These rankings are used to determine seeding and eligibility for national-level competition.
The USAT (USA Archery Tournament) Series is the qualifier pathway for the USA Archery Outdoor Nationals and represents the most direct route into the national competitive structure. USAT events are held across the country throughout the outdoor season. Your performance at USAT events generates qualification scores that determine whether you make the cut for nationals in your division and age category.
How the Ranking Points Formula Works
USA Archery rankings are not simply based on raw score. They use a points calculation that accounts for the competition level of the event. A score shot at a Level 3 qualifier earns more ranking points than the same score at a Level 1 club event. This incentivizes archers to compete at higher-level events rather than padding scores at local shoots.
The formula rewards consistency across multiple events, not just a single peak performance. Archers who compete regularly throughout the season accumulate more ranking points than those who shoot one strong event and disappear. Division and Age Categories

How to Start Climbing

Target USAT qualifier events specifically. If nationals is a goal, identify the USAT qualifiers within driving distance and build your season calendar around them. You typically need to submit qualifying scores by specific deadlines to be eligible for nationals.
Track your scores in the USA Archery member portal. Once you're a USA Archery member and competing in sanctioned events, your scores are submitted by the host club and tracked in your profile.
