I have a different jigs than Daniel. I have an older JoJan 6 arrow jig and I have a newer jig that works similar to the Bitz except it holds the arrow vertically. My Bitz was a very early jig and I only had a left helical clamp and nock receiver and I found I could buy a complete new jig that would do left or right and adjusted for 3-4 fletch cheaper than I could upgrade the Bitz.
I use Vanetec vanes. I clean my arrows and wipe the base of the vanes with lacquer thinner. I buy the packs of Harbor Freight Tools super glue gel. I think it's an 8 or 10 pack of the little tubes of glue. I like the small tubes so that way if you forget to put the cap back on and you ruin a whole tube you haven't lost much.
After cleaning the base of the vanes and letting them dry I put a vane in the clamp, put a series of dots about half an inch apart down the vane, and then start at one end of the vane with the tip and drag it to the other end to spread the glue, then do the same starting at the opposite end, clamp and wait.
Normal set is to use a Bitzenburger to fletch. Place the vane in the clamp and align with my mark, apply a small amount of glue and ensure entire mating surface is covered. Apply cane to arrow and squeeze the clamp to the arrow for a ten count. Remove clamp and wipe away excess glue. Once all canes are applied, add a dab of glue to the front of each vane and let sit overnight. I try to use the vane manufacturer's glue and follow the instructions (primer or not, etc.).
