Well friends I'm ready to go to my first 3D of the year.
I've had a tough time getting ready however. I have had a bad nock left tear shooting through the paper tuner with my Prime since installing new string and cables. I did everything to be thought of: shimming cams, changed limb orientation, tried arrow spines from 500-200. Nothing helped. Doing an online search I found if your draw length is too long it would cause it. So I changed my cams from 30.5" to 30" and boom! Bullet holes! Whew! I'm happy that's fixed!
I wanted to shoot a couple more indoor rounds and use my vintage Hoyt Pro Vantage because it was less weight but the closest club changed their last two 5 spot tournaments to indoor 3D tournaments so I opted out of those.
Yesterday I managed to get my sight settings out to 45 yards. I'll have to fine tune them between now and Saturday. I found I'm pretty rusty at 35-45 yards so hopefully I can get some practice before then. I'll be headed out to Bear Creek Archery in Wise Virginia. I can't wait!
P.S. I'll be styling in my new Thwack Life shirt and hope to see plenty folks while wearing it to get the word out!
Thanks so much for the support! Looks like you’re a talented bow restorationist! 😁 (I just made that up.)
Got to finally get to an indoor 5 spot round Saturday.
I haven't been able to shoot much the past 3 weeks due to the weather and the dry firing and getting my bow set up again. I tend to lose strength fast if I don't get to shoot every day.
I've also been nursing a bad back and that morning I said I wasn't gonna go. Felt a little better that evening so I decided I would go. I did ok with the back as long as I didn't sit down between ends. Luckily there was enough shooters for two lines so I got to rest a little between ends. I was shooting my Deer Crossing Archery Full Caliber arrows for the first time. I've never shot the large diameter shafts before but after shooting them I really like them.
My first arrow was a 4. Shot good up through the 7th end. While I was waiting I told my wife I wasn't doing too bad as long as I didn't do something stupid. Then I did something stupid! I dropped an arrow on the line and it bounced just out of reach so I had to take a zero on that one. And yes, Full Calibers will bounce quite well if you drop one. Lol.
Shot another 4 in the final end. I was pretty fatigued by then and bumped my button struggling to draw my bow. How I even hit the target is beyond me but I got lucky. I think I'm gonna have to get a bow with less peak weight because locally it's not often they'll have enough shooters for two lines. If they had only enough for one line I likely wouldn't have been able to get through the complete round.
Anyway, had a great time and was a lot of fun getting back on the line and competing with the young guys. Ended up with 293-40X. I was pleased with my score other than the first arrow. The dropped arrow and the 4 in the last end had nothing to do with my form and execution.
You did very well friend! My bows are staring at me every day. I haven't been able to shoot mine in a long time. It's kinda depressing but there is no indoor range near me and all I can do is work so I won't be homeless. so I'm stu…
